Basic Information on Natrilix SR
Natrilix SR is used in the treatment of de-compensated cardiac failure and hypertension. It is indicated for the management of edema that occurs as a result of congestive heart failure (CHF). It is a diuretic drug that contains non-thiazide sulphonamide. The drug has an anti-hypertensive action which causes reduction in the mean blood pressure, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure.
Brand or generic Natrilix SR inhibits the re-absorption of sodium. Also, it enhances the excretion of chloride and sodium in urine. It also increases the excretion of magnesium and potassium to a certain extent. Thus the drug acts by increasing the output of urine and has an anti-hypertensive action. The anti-hypertensive effect of the drug is associated with improved arterial compliance.
Precautions / Side Effects for Natrilix SR
The common side effects of Natrilix SR include alteration in urinary frequency, gastric irritation, postural hypotension (decrease of blood pressure upon standing-up), dizziness, fatigue, anorexia, confusion, headaches, weakness, muscle pain, muscle cramp, allergic manifestations (such as rashes), hypokalemia (reduction in potassium level), nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and constipation. Co-administration of Indapamide along with diuretics is not recommended.
If you have had prior events of hypokalemia or have a condition called gout then it is recommended to monitor uric acid and potassium serum levels. If these levels are altered (rather reduced) by administration of Indapamide then you may require potassium supplements. Avoid the drug if you have hypersensitivity to group of sulfonamide drugs. The drug should be administered with advice of your physician if you have hepatic impairment or renal impairment, especially if you are on haemodialysis. Pregnant women and breast-feeding women must avoid the brand or generic Natrilix SR as sufficient data of the drugs performance in these women is not available.
Natrilix SR Dosage
In the treatment of hypertension the recommended dose of Natrilix SR is 1.25 mg taken in the morning, as a single dose on a daily basis. The dose may be increased from 1.25 mg to 2.5 mg daily once if no satisfactory response is observed after 4 weeks. After another 4 weeks if no satisfactory response is observed with 2.5 mg dosage then 5.0 mg of Natrilix SR drug may be administered. In the treatment of edema due to CHF 2.5 mg drug is administered, daily once. Depending on the response the dose may be increased to 5.0 mg, daily once.
