General Information on Navane
Navane is an anti-psychotic medication indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia. This medication has the generic name thiothixene.
Navane has been found to be effective in managing schizophrenia, but its effectiveness in managing behavioral complications caused by mental retardation.
You may buy Navane for other purposes if it has been prescribed for that condition by the doctor.
Side effects of Navane
You must not buy Navane for the treatment of psychotic conditions caused by dementia. Navane may cause pneumonia, heart failure or even sudden death in elderly people suffering from conditions that are related to dementia. You must not take Navane if you have previously suffered an allergy to it or if you suffer from blood cell disorders such as low white blood cell count and anemia. You must also not take Navane if your alertness is reduced due to certain medications or because of alcohol consumption.
Navane is known to impair your thinking and slow down your reaction time. As a result, it may not be safe for you to perform actions that need a lot of concentration or alertness. Examples of such actions include operating heavy machinery and driving vehicles. You must inform your doctor immediately if you suffer from uncontrollable twitching or movement of your lips, face, eyes, tongue, legs or arms. You must not drink alcohol while you are on Navane, since this medication can add to the effects of alcohol, leading to a dangerous condition.
You must inform your doctor if you become pregnant during the course of Navane treatment. The usage of Navane or any other anti-psychotic medication during the final trimester of pregnancy is known to be dangerous to the fetus, causing problems such as breathing problems, withdrawal symptoms, fussiness, feeding problems, stiff or limp muscles and tremors. On the other hand, stopping this medication suddenly during pregnancy would cause withdrawal symptoms in the mother. Therefore, you must not stop this medication after you become pregnant unless your doctor advices you to do so. Navane is not suitable for children below the age of 12 years.
Dosage of Navane
Navane is to be taken exactly as per the dosage prescribed by your doctor. You must not take a dosage larger than what has been prescribed. Your doctor may change your prescribed dosage from time to time according to your response.
Navane is available in the following strengths- Navane 1mg, Navane 2mg, Navane 5mg, Navane 10mg and Navane 20mg. The dosage of Navane is adjusted based on the severity of the patient’s condition. In some cases, the condition has been controlled with single daily doses.
For mild conditions, the starting dosage of Navane is recommended to be kept at 2mg, thrice a day. If required, the dosage may be increased to a total of 15mg per day. For severe conditions, a starting dosage of 5mg, twice a day, is recommended. In most cases, the optimum dosage ranges between 20mg and 30mg per day. A dosage of more than 60mg per day often has no effect.
