General Information on Neptazane

Neptazane is a medication given for the treatment of glaucoma. The generic name for Neptazane is methazolamide, which is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor.

Neptazane works by reducing the activity of a naturally produced protein in the body called carbonic anhydrase. As a result, the amount of fluid made in the eyes is reduced, which consequently reduces the pressure in the eye.

You may also buy Neptazane for other medical conditions if it has been prescribed by the doctor.

Side effects of Neptazane

You must inform your doctor as soon as you can if you begin to suffer from a fever, sore throat, tremors or tingling sensation in the hands or feet, rashes, pain in the groin sides and unusual bleeding or bruising. These are the initial signs of very serious side effects.

Neptazane may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so you must be very careful while performing activities that require a lot of alertness and concentration. Such activities include driving a vehicle and operating heavy machines. You must also avoid getting exposed to sunlight for too long while you are on this medication, since Neptazane may cause an increased sensitivity of skin to sunlight. In order to avoid skin damage, you are advised to wear appropriately protective clothing.

You may suffer from an allergic reaction to Neptazane if you already suffered an allergy to other sulfa drugs. The signs of an allergy include the appearance of hives, breathing problems and swollen tongue, throat and face. Mild side effects that may occur on taking this medication include the following:

  • Confusion or headache
  • Tremors or nervousness
  • Weakness, fatigue, dizziness and drowsiness
  • Change in taste sensations, constipation, vomiting, reduced appetite and nausea
  • Reduced blood sugar control for diabetics
  • Increase photosensitivity of the skin
  • Gout that increased in severity
  • Hearing and vision problems

Dosage of Neptazane

Neptazane has to be taken as per the dosage given to you by the doctor. Do not take a larger dosage of Neptazane than what was already prescribed for you. By doing this, you risk suffering from an overdose. Signs of an overdose would include the following:

  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Abnormally low appetite
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Numbness or tingling sensation
  • Ringing sensation in the ears

You must not share this medication with anyone else, even though they may seem to have the same problem as you have. Neptazane must be taken with a full glass of water with food. This is done to prevent Neptazane from affecting your stomach.

Neptazane is known to interact with several other medications, including diflunisal, primidone, cyclosporine, aspirin, salsalate and lithium. This is not a complete list, so you must inform your doctor about all the other medications you are taking before you buy Neptazane. Do not start, stop or alter the dosage of any new medication, including Neptazane, without the consent of your doctor.
