This medicine is a colony stimulating factor. This medicine is a man-made type of amino acid or protein. It fuels the bone marrow and encourages the growth of white blood cells known as neutrophils in the human body. White blood cells help the human body in fighting against infection. The Neulasta drug is used for treating neutropenia. Under this ailment, cancer chemotherapy causes the reduction in the number of white blood cells in the body. This medicine is used for treating people suffering from cancers other than bone marrow cancer. You should tell your doctor before starting this medication about any allergies you have. If you suffer from sickle cell disorder, then you should consult your health care provider about using this treatment.

Precautions / Side effects Of Neulasta

Pegfilgrastim is the main ingredient of this drug. Inform your physician if you are allergic to this or any other component of this medicine. If you are taking lithium, then talk with your doctor about the suitability of this treatment. If you feel any adverse symptoms after taking brand or generic Neulasta, then you should immediately seek your doctor’s guidance. These symptoms may include body aches, skin rash, chills and fever.

Brand or generic Neulasta should not be given to patients who are allergic to medicines made with E. Coli bacteria. This medicine may cause impairment to an unborn child. Therefore, if you are pregnant or you get pregnant during this treatment, then you should converse with your doctor about the aptness of this medication. It is not known whether pegfilgrastim passes into breast milk or not. You should not consume this drug without consulting with your physician first, if you are nursing a child.

Neulasta Dosage

The recommended dosage of this drug is 6 mg once per chemotherapy cycle. The drug is meant to be administered subcutaneously via an injection. However, this dosage is not applicable to infants, children and younger people weighing less than 45 kg. The drug should be kept refrigerated at a temperature between 2 degrees and 8 degrees Celsius. You should not shake this medicine. Neulasta should not be frozen, however, if it is accidently frozen then it should be thawed in the refrigerator. However, if it is frozen for the second time, then it should be discarded.
