General Information on Nitro-Dur
Nitro-Dur is part of a group of drugs called nitrates or antiaginals. It helps prevent chest pain (angina) arising due to coronary artery disease. However, it does not help in curing the already initiated pain.
When Nitro-Dur enters the body, its main function is to relax the blood vessels by increasing the supply of blood and oxygen, which reduces the heart’s workload. Regular use of Nitro-Dur for a long time helps prevent chest pain.
The medicine can be purchased only with a doctor’s prescription. However, before you buy Nitro-Dur, you must inform your doctor if you have problems related to the heart and blood pressure. Consult your doctor before buying Nitro-Dur if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Side effects of Nitro-Dur
Nitro-Dur has a few unwanted side effects. In case any side effects occur, they must be brought to the attention of the doctor. Lightheadedness is the most common side effect of Nitro-Dur. Some of the rare and less common side effects of Nitro-Dur are:
- Pain in the jaw, back, and arms
- Problems in the chest region
- Blurred vision
- Irregular heartbeat
- Abnormal fatigue
- Bluishness in the lips, palms or nails
- Breathing problems
- Pale skin
- Sore throat
- Unusual bleeding or bruising
You should not buy Nitro-Dur if you are allergic to Nitroglycerin or any other ingredient of Nitro-Dur, or Nitrates.
Dosage of Nitro-Dur
The dosage of Nitro-Dur varies from person to person, depending on factors such as weight, medical conditions, etc. The right dosage for each individual has to be determined by a doctor after complete evaluation of the patient. You must follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor, and never exceed or lower the daily dosage without talking to your doctor first. It is available in 4 strengths: Nitro-Dur 0.2, Nitro-Dur 0.4, Nitro-Dur 0.6 and Nitro-Dur 0.8. The implication of Nitro-Dur 0.2 is that each 10 cm sq. patch contains 40mg nitroglycerin, which is released at 0.2mg per hour. Nitro-Dur 0.4mg is a patch of 20cm sq. which contains 80mg of nitroglycerin that is released at 0.4mg per hour.
The patch should be applied in an easy to reach area. Recommended areas include the upper arm, chest, back or shoulders. Hands must be washed properly after applying Nitro-Dur.
If you observe any symptoms of a Nitro-Dur overdose, you must consult a doctor immediately. Some of them are:
- Change in color visibility (particularly yellow and blue)
- Seeing halos around lights
- Loss of or change in consciousness
- Paralysis
- Spinning sensation
Nitro-Dur can have the desired effects only if it is applied as indicated. The patch must also be disposed of carefully.

There are four major drug interactions known to take place with Nitro-Dur. These are:
- Tadalafil
- Vardenafil
- Sildenafil
- Tizanidine
There are 273 moderate drug interactions and 81 minor drug interactions with Nitro-Dur, summing up to a total of 358 drug interactions. These also include eight interactions that have been known to give rise to conditions such as:
- Hemodialysis
- Intracranial Pressure
- Pericarditis
- Anemia
- Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy
- Hypotension
- Glaucoma
- Acute Myocardial Infarction
