General Information on Normodyne
Normodyne is used to treat hypertension, or high blood pressure. The generic name of this drug is Labetalol. It comes under a category of drugs referred as beta-blockers.
Normodyne works by blocking certain receptors, which, in turn, helps the arteries to expand and circulate blood more efficiently. This drug may be used alone or along with certain other drugs to control high blood pressure.
This drug is administered either orally or intravenously. The oral tablets are available in following strengths: Normodyne 100 mg, 200 mg, and 300 mg. The liquid solution for intravenous administration is available in strength, Normodyne 5 mg/ml.
Side effects of Normodyne
You should not buy Normodyne if:
- You are hypersensitive to Labetalol or any other ingredient used in this drug
- You have COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder) or asthma
- You have slow heart rhythm or heart blockage
- You have any medical condition that can cause extremely low blood pressure
Before starting treatment, you should tell your doctor if:
- You have diabetes or congestive heart failure
- You have or have had kidney or liver disease
- You have or have had a serious breathing problem such as emphysema or bronchitis
- You have or have had pheochromocytoma (tumor of adrenal gland)
- You are pregnant or planning to become pregnant
- You are breastfeeding
Diabetes patients who have been prescribed Normodyne may need to monitor their blood sugar level more frequently. This is because this drug is known to conceal early symptoms of low blood sugar level.
Normodyne may cause following side effects:
- Tired feeling, spinning sensation, dizziness
- Uneven heartbeats
- Upper stomach pain, nausea, loss of appetite, dark urine, black stools, yellow eyes or skin
- Weight gain
- Stuffy nose

Dosage of Normodyne
The usual starting oral dosage is 100 mg two times a day. After a couple of days, if required, the dosage may be increased to 200 mg two times a day. The recommended maintenance dosage range is 200 mg – 400 mg. The actual dosage, however, may be different for different patients.
The recommended starting intravenous dosage is 20 mg administered over a span of 2 minutes. If required, additional intravenous injections of 40 mg – 80 mg may be given after every 10 minutes until the total Normodyne dosage reaches 300 mg.
The cessation of treatment should happen gradually. Do not stop medication abruptly as it may lead to serious side effects.
Interactions
Normodyne is known to interact with various types of drugs. Before you buy Normodyne, inform your doctor if you are taking any of the following:
- Adrenergic stimulating drugs or other medicines used for treating asthma or breathing disorders (for example albuterol, pirbuterol, and theophylline)
- Antidepressants (for example imipramine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline)
- Oral diabetes medicines
- Water pills
- Nitroglycerin
- Digoxin
- Cimetidine
If you are taking any drug that can interact with Normodyne, your doctor is likely to recommend that you:
- Increase or decrease its dosage
- Stop taking it during treatment with Normodyne
- Increase or decrease the dosage of Normodyne
