General Information on Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge

A man-made form of insulin, Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge is taken by patients with diabetes mellitus to manage their blood sugar levels. Insulin is the generic name of this drug, and it falls in a category of drugs referred as antidiabetic agents. This medicine lowers the sugar levels.

Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge is classified as an intermediate-acting insulin. This drug takes slightly longer than fast-acting insulin to show results. Fast-acting insulin takes up to 30 minutes to show results whereas Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge takes up to 90 minutes. The effect of this drug lasts for about 24 hours. Generally, diabetes mellitus patients are given Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge in combination of a fast-acting insulin.

The inactive ingredients used in the preparation are: glycerol, water, zinc chloride, protamine sulphate, metacresol, disodium phosphate dihydrate, hydrochloric acid, phenol, and sodium hydroxide.

You should always consult a doctor before changing your insulin type. That is why it is recommended that you buy Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge only if your doctor has approved its use for your condition.

Side effects of Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge

Common and less serious side effects of this drug include: mild itching, redness, or swelling at the administration site. Sometimes, a dosage of Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge may cause your blood sugar levels to drop extremely low. This condition, of extremely low blood sugar levels, is referred as hypoglycemia. Symptoms associate with this condition are: extreme hunger, palpitations, weakness, sweating, nausea, and trouble speaking.

You should not buy Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge if you are allergic to Insulin. In addition, before starting treatment, you must inform your physician of your complete medical history.

However, it is necessary that you use this drug during pregnancy only if directed by your doctor. Lactating women should consult their doctor before breastfeeding a child during treatment.

Dosage of Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge

The dosage of Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge should be individualized. There is no one standard dosage that works for all patients. Insulin needs of different individuals are different. Your doctor may perform certain tests to evaluate your insulin needs.

Your daily Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge dosage depends on various factors such as your medical history, response to treatment, your daily carbohydrate intake, and other medications that you are taking. You should take Novolin NPH Insulin Cartridge exactly as directed by your doctor.

During treatment your doctor would ask you to monitor your glucose levels regularly. This will help in preventing a hypoglycemic (extremely low blood sugar levels) or hyperglycemic (extremely high blood sugar levels) reaction. Your doctor will also advise you about what you should do if your sugar levels drop way below normal or are way above normal. It is necessary that you do as told when you experience a hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia episode.
