General Information on Ocuflox
Ocuflox is used for the treatment of eye infections caused by bacteria. The active ingredient in the medicine is Ofloxacin, and it belongs to the class of quinolone antibiotics.
The medicine is available in the form of an ophthalmic solution. It works by stopping growth and spread of the susceptible bacteria.
This medicine cannot be used for treating any other type of infection in the eye.
Side effects of Ocuflox
Before you buy Ocuflox, inform your doctor if you have allergy to Ofloxacin, or to any other quinolone antibiotics including levofloxacin or ciprofloxacin. Also inform your doctor if you have any other eye problem, such as glaucoma, cataracts or any other eye infection.
Your vision may become unstable or blurred for a few minutes after applying Ocuflox ophthalmic solution. You should not drive a vehicle, operate a machine or do any such task during this period, as it may result in a serious mishap. Wait for a few minutes until your vision becomes completely clear.
Some common side effects that you may experience during Ocuflox treatment include:
- Temporary blurred vision
- eye discomfort
- eye itching, redness, tearing or dryness
- increased sensitivity to light
- feeling as if there is something in the eye
Using this medicine for a long time may lead to a new fungal infection in the eye. Therefore, do not use it more than prescribed, as it will not help the condition. Doing so will only worsen the condition and will increase chances of developing fungal eye infection.
Some serious side effects associated with the drug include eye pain and swelling on face or eyelids. Seek medical help immediately if you develop any of these symptoms.
Some patients may also develop an allergic reaction to the medicine. Symptoms of an allergy include hives on body, a swollen throat, lips, face or tongue, breathing problems and severe dizziness. Discontinue the medicine if you develop any of these symptoms. Seek immediate medical attention if needed.
Dosage of Ocuflox
Initially, you will be advised to apply one or two Ocuflox drops into the affected eye after every 2 to 4 hours for 2 days. After that, you will have to apply one or two drops into the affected eye four times in a day, from day 3rd to 7th.
You must remove your contact lenses, if you are wearing any, before you apply Ocuflox. Wait for at least 15 minutes before you reinsert them.
The dropper of the bottle is sterile. You should not touch it with any surface, including your hands and eyes. It may get contaminated and may lead to a new infection in the eye. Always keep bottle of the medicine properly capped.
Drug Interactions of Ocuflox
Before you buy Ocuflox, inform your doctor about all the medicines you are using at present, especially any eye drops or ointments. Also tell him or her if you are using any oral or topical antibiotics at present. Based on this information, your doctor will be able to decide whether Ocuflox is the right medicine for you or not.
