General Information on Oforta Injection
Oforta Injection is used for treating CLL or B-Cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia. It is a cancer type which advances gradually, resulting in unusual proliferation of white blood cells known as lymphocytes.
This medicine is given to adults patients only, whose disease is in advanced stages and who have not responded to standard alkylating agents.
Active ingredient in the medicine is Fludara, and it belongs to the class of antimetabolites. It works by interfering with the ability of cancer to multiply, so that the cancer cells are destroyed.
You will receive this medicine in the form of an intravenous injection.
Side effects of Oforta Injection
Before you buy Oforta Injection, inform your doctor if you have a current infection or virus illness such as chickenpox or herpes, kidney problem or blood disorder such as clotting problem or anemia.
The medicine may decrease your immunity, because of which, you may get easily infected. Therefore, you should try to stay away from people suffering from contagious diseases such as chickenpox or flu.
Kidney function gets deteriorated in elderly patients. This medicine is removed through kidneys only. Therefore, elderly patients may have more risks of developing serious side effects of the drug, such as bleeding or infection.
As the drug causes easy bruising or bleeding, you should exercise caution while using objects such as razors, nail cutters, knives or scissors. Also avoid getting involved in contact sports.
Pregnant women are also not recommended to buy Oforta Injection, as the drug may reach the fetus and may harm the unborn child. Therefore, you should use an effective form of contraception during Oforta treatment, such as condoms. Try to use a barrier form of birth control, instead of hormonal forms, such as contraceptive pills, rings or injections.
Following side effects can commonly occur during treatment with Oforta Injection. However, you should immediately contact your doctor if any of these become severe or uncontrollable:
- Nausea or vomiting
- diarrhea
- muscle aches
- headache
- loss of appetite
- tiredness
The vomiting and nausea may be severe. To minimize or get relief from these side effects, you should eat several small meals in the day. Do not eat anything just before receiving Oforta Injection. Limit your physical activities and inform your doctor immediately if your condition worsens or persists.
Sores or pain in the mouth may also occur. For that, you should brush your teeth carefully and gently, avoid using a mouthwash containing alcohol and rinse mouth frequently with a mixture of cold water and salt or baking soda. Also try to eat soft and moist foods.
Some serious side effects associated with the drug include:
- Fast or irregular heartbeat
- swelling on ankles or feet
- black, bloody or tarry stools
- persistent cough or cough with blood
- seizures
- chest pain
- painful or difficult breathing
Dosage of Oforta Injection
Usually, you will be given Oforta Injection 25mg/m2 per day. you will receive the injection for 5 consecutive days, and this 5-day cycle is repeated every 28 days.
Drug Interactions of Oforta Injection
Drug interactions may occur if you are already taking blood thinners, live vaccines, salicylates or NSAIDs at present. Inform your doctor beforehand if you are taking any of these.
