Fludara treatment is given as an intravenous injection to treat CLL (B-Cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia) and other cancers. CLL is a type of cancer which advances slowly resulting in abnormal proliferation of white blood cells called lymphocytes. The medicine is meant only for adults whose disease has advanced or who have not reacted to treatment with any standard alkylating agent for their cancer. Fludara retards and may stop the growth of cancer cells. It is an antimetabolite which interferes with the cancer’s ability to multiply and also causes “Cell suicide” in the cancer cells. Due to the kind of structure of the active ingredient Fludarabine phosphate, it is capable of bypassing action of adenosine deaminase enzyme and getting inside the cells before becoming active. Fludara Dosage
Fludara drug is administered as an injection into the veins IV. The recommended dosage is 25 mg/m2 per day. The injection is given every day for five consecutive days. This five day cycle is repeated once in 28 days. Depending on the toxicity (hematologic or nonheamatologic), the dosage may be changed or delayed. 20% dose reduction is recommended in cases of weakened kidney function. The powder is reconstituted with 2 ml of clear sterile water for injection USP. The reconstituted injection should be used within eight hours. It should not be mixed with other drugs. Store the injection between 20 c and 8 0 C in a refrigerator.
