General Information On Orbax
Orbax is used for treating certain bacterial infections in dogs and cats. In certain cases, it can also be used for treating skin disorders and kidney disease. Its generic name is Orbifloxacin, and it belongs to the class of broad-spectrum antibiotics.
The medicine is available in the form of oral tablets. It works by stopping amalgamation of the bacterial DNA, thereby killing the bacteria and treating the infection.
Side effects of Orbax
Do not buy Orbax if the legs of your dog are still developing, or if your cat or dog is nursing. This may lead to serious developmental problems in the animal’s joints. Also do not give this drug to your pet if it has a central nervous system disorder, as Orbax may induce seizures in such animals.
Prolonged usage of fluoroquinolone antibiotics may have effects on your cat’s retina. Therefore, use Orbax exactly as prescribed by the veterinarian.
Orbax is meant to be given to animals only, and should not be used by humans. If you ingest it accidentally, it would be better to seek medical help at once, especially if you develop any adverse reactions.
Some dogs or cats may vomit or suffer from intestinal distress during Orbax treatment. In that case, you should continue giving the drug to your pet. However, you should inform the veterinarian about the symptoms your pet is experiencing and seek medical help if any of these symptoms worsen.
Some serious side effects associated with Orbax include depression, ataxia, facial edema or seizures. Seek medical attention at once if your pet encounters any of these symptoms.
Some pets may also develop an allergic reaction during Orbax treatment. Symptoms of an allergy include swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, hives, or respiratory distress. Discontinue giving Orbax to your pet, and seek medical attention immediately. Do not give this drug to your pet if it has a history of allergic reactions to Orbax. You should look out for symptoms of an allergic reaction, especially if you are giving Orbax to your pet for the first time.
Dosage of Orbax
Orbax tablets are available in different strengths: Orbax 5.7mg, Orbax 22.7mg and Orbax 68mg. You will be advised to give one tablet to your pet once a day. The dosage recommended depends on your dog’s or cat’s weight.
The tablet should be given to the pet on an empty stomach, around 1 or 2 hours before a meal.
Complete the full period of prescription, even if the symptoms of your pet seem to get better. The symptoms might have improved, but the infection may not have healed completely. If you discontinue giving Orbax to your pet, the bacteria may regrow, and the infection may return.
Allow your pet to drink lots of water during Orbax treatment. Also avoid getting your pet overheated due to excessive physical activity or hot weather. Your pet may get dehydrated, and its condition may get worse if this is the case.
Drug Interactions of Orbax
Before you buy Orbax online, inform the veterinarian if your pet is already being given any NSAIDs, anti-seizure medicines, or drugs used for treating respiratory problems.
