General information about Otomite Plus
Otomite Plus is a highly effective medicine for fighting ear mites in cats and dogs. Ear mites might seem harmless since they do not feed on the animal’s blood, but they are persistently difficult to get rid of and may cause serious problems, like permanent loss of hearing. The predominant drug present in Otomite Plus is Pyrethrins. The strong chemical thoroughly clears all traces of the tiny and highly contagious parasites residing in the ear canals of dogs and cats. However, ear-mite condition needs to be diagnosed properly for effective relief. The most prominent of all symptoms of an ear-mite situation is violent scratching of the ear and formation of blackish ground substances in the ear. In such cases, you can buy Otomite Plus to provide relief from the condition within a week or two.
Side Effects of Otomite Plus
Even though there are only a few notable side effects to Otomite Plus when used on animals (probably due to the fact that low doses of the medicine is potent enough to destroy ear mites), there might be the following effects on certain animals owing to the high content of Pyrethrins in the medicine.
- dizziness accompanied by headache;
- skin rashes;
- hives
- itchy eyes along with the sensation of burning;
- respiratory diseases;
- serious neurological disorders;
- anaemia
Pyrothrines are known to be potent carcinogens. However, if absorption through skin or oral intake of the drug can be avoided, the risks related to the use of pyrothrines is diluted to some extent and in the form of Otomite Plus, it can efficiently act as an insecticide. Veterinary advice should be taken before using Otomite Plus on animals showing allergic reactions to the drugs contained and pregnant pets.
Dosage
Given the serious implications of the Pyrothrine content in Otomite Plus on the health of animals, it is strictly necessary to adhere to correct doses of the medicine. The medicine should be applied in each external ear and followed up by thorough massage which will ensure that the lotion spreads through each ear canal evenly. Use lotion at the rate of one drop per kg of body weight for dogs and two drops for each kg of body weight for cats. The maximum should not exceed 15 drops and 10 drops respectively. The treatment with Otomite Plus once every 7 days is generally sufficient. However, in cases of severe ear mite growth, it can be used twice a week up to a maximum of two weeks. If problem persists, consultation with the veterinarian is a must. Otomite Plus is not meant for dogs or cats below 8 months of age.
Interactions
The chances of the drug getting into the bloodstream through the use of Otomite Plus are low. For this reason, there are very few instances of its interaction with other drugs. However, it is still necessary to inform the veterinarian if the pets are on some other medication as well before you buy Otomite Plus. It is best not to use Otomite Plus simultaneously with other pesticides.
