Basic Information On Paraplatin
Paraplatin is a chemotherapy agent and is used primarily in the treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. It is also indicated for treating cancers of lung, neck and head. The drug slows down the growth of cancerous cells and prevents it from spreading in the body. Thus the drug interferes with the growth of cancerous cells. The drug contains alkylating agent which have 3 different mechanisms of action. Primarily, the drug prevents the RNA transcription and DNA synthesis from the DNA of the cancer cell. Secondly, the drug prevents the separation of DNA for its synthesis and its transcription. Lastly, the drug induces mis-pairing which in turn leads to mutations. These theories explain the mechanism of action for brand or generic Paraplatin.
