General Information on Pataday Eye Drops

Pataday Eye Drops is used to treat symptoms of allergic conditions such as itching, burning, inflammation, and watering caused by different eye allergies such as allergic conjunctivitis. It is also used to treat itchy eyes caused by mold, pollution, pollen, dust, pet hair, and mites.

Olopatadine Hydrochloride, the main active ingredient in the medication, is a H1-receptor antagonist. It inhibits the release of histamine from the mast cells and also blocks histamine receptors. Histamine is a naturally occurring chemical in the body that causes itching and watery eyes.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions regarding the dosage. Doctors generally recommend patients to administer one drop of Pataday Eye Drops once daily. You can use the medication at any time during the day.

If you are using contact lenses, you need to remove them before administering the ophthalmic solution in the eyes. Do not wear the contact lenses immediately after applying; wait for at least 10 minutes.

Interactions

Pataday Eye Drops is an ophthalmic solution, and a very small quantity of the medication actually reaches the bloodstream.
