Paxil CR is used in the treatment and management of major depressive disorders. The drug is a psychotropic drug and is administered orally. It is a controlled release tablet that is indicated in the treatment of panic disorder, social anxiety disorder and pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder. The drug is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) but is not related to other SSRI drugs, tetracyclic or tricyclic drugs, anti-panic drugs and anti-depressant drugs. It contains paroexetine hydrochloride which is a salt of phenylpiperidine compound.
