Basic Information of Paxil
The drug is an anti-depressant. It belongs to a category of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It is a derivative of phenylpiperidine. Paxil is used in the treatment and management of panic disorders, general anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), obsessive compulsive disorder, major depressive disorder, pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. In the management of panic disorder the starting dose is 10 mg/day and maximum dose is 60 mg/day. In the management of social anxiety disorder the starting dose is 20 mg/day and maximum dose is up to 60 mg/day. In patients with generalized anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorders the recommended dose range of brand or generic Paxil is 20-50 mg/day.
