General Information on Persantine
Persantine is used to prevent the formation of blood clots after a heart valve replacement surgery. It is generally used along with blood thinners such as Warfarin. It can also be used to decrease the risk of stroke in patients with a tendency to develop blood clots. Persantine is also indicated in treatment of transient ischemia attacks, heart valve disease, heart attack and strokes.
Dipyridamole, the main active ingredient in the medication, belongs to a group of drugs known as platelet inhibitors. It works by preventing blood platelets from clumping together, thus helping the blood to flow freely and preventing the blockage of blood vessels.
