Plendil is indicated in treatment of high blood pressure (hypertension). Felodipine, the main active ingredient in the medication, is a calcium antagonist which belongs to a group of drugs known as calcium channel blockers.
Felodipine blocks the calcium channels that decrease the amount of calcium entering the smooth muscle cells in the arterial walls and heart muscles. This action causes relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, and the heart is able to pump blood more freely, which helps lower blood pressure.
