General Information on Praxilene
Praxilene is used for treating peripheral vascular disorders such as rest pain, intermittent claudication, incipient gangrene, Raynaud’s syndrome, night cramps, trophic ulcers, acrocyanosis and diabetic arteriopathy, and cerebral vascular disorders such as cerebral artherosclerosis and cerebral insufficiency.
The active ingredient in the medicine is Naftidrofuryl Oxalate. It works by widening the blood vessels and increasing the ability of the cells to get rid of waste matter. In this way, disorders caused due to decreased supply of blood in certain body parts are treated.
The medicine is available in the form of oral capsules, which you have to take exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Side effects of Praxilene
Your doctor will not recommend you to buy Praxilene if you have an allergy to Naftidrofuryl Oxalate or to any of the drug’s ingredients. Also inform your doctor beforehand if you have recurrent calcium stones or history of hyperoxaluria. Also inform him or her if you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, liver or kidney disease, or a history of heart attack or stroke. Special tests will need to be taken and dosage adjustments will need to be made if you are suffering from any of these medical conditions.
Drink sufficient amount of liquids during Praxilene treatment, as you may have more chances of becoming dehydrated. As you may also be at risk of getting overheated, avoid sweating excessively due to strenuous physical activities such as jogging, exercise, or hot baths.
Praxilene is usually a well-tolerated medicine and side effects are rarely developed. However, some symptoms that Praxilene patients may experience include rashes, nausea or epigastric pain. Inform your doctor at once if any of these become intolerable.
Seek medical attention if you develop hepatitis or calcium oxalate kidney stones during Praxilene treatment even though these are rarely experienced side effects of the drug.
Some patients may also have an allergic reaction to Praxilene. Stop using the medicine at once if you develop hives, facial swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing after taking Praxilene. Seek medical attention if any of these symptoms persist even after discontinuing the drug.
Dosage of Praxilene
Praxilene 100mg is equal to 81mg Naftidrofuryl and 19mg oxalate. In order to treat peripheral vascular disorder, your doctor will advise you to take one or two Praxilene capsules three times a day, for a period of around 3 months. For treating cerebral vascular disorders, you will be advised to take one Praxilene 100mg capsule three times a day for around 3 months.
The capsules have to be swallowed whole, without opening, breaking or chewing them. Take the capsules with meals and along with a full glass of water.
Interactions
Although no serious drug interactions have been reported so far, it would be better to inform your doctor about all the medicinal products you are using at present, including prescription and non-prescription drugs, herbal preparations and health supplements. Based on this information, your doctor will be able to decide whether he or she should recommend you to buy Praxilene or not and what dosage would be appropriate for you.
