General Information on Prempro
Prempro is used for treating different conditions associated with menopause in women:
- Moderate or severe vasomotor symptoms
- Moderate or severe vulvar and vaginal atrophy
- Postmenopausal osteoporosis
This drug is a combination of medroxyprogesterone and conjugated estrogens. Conjugated estrogens are a combination of estrogen hormones that are essential for several processes in the female body. Medroxyprogesterone, also known as Progesterone, is needed for the processes of menstruation and ovulation.
You can buy Prempro in the form of oral tablets. It works by providing the necessary hormones to the patient’s body.
Side effects of Prempro
Before you buy Prempro, inform your doctor if you have any of the following medical conditions:
- Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
- Cancer of the breast, uterus or ovaries
- Blood clots
- Liver or kidney disease
- Heart attack or heart disease
- Family history of cancer, breast lumps, angioedema or blood clots
- Blood clotting disorder such as protein S or protein C deficiency
- High blood pressure, high cholesterol or triglyceride, or diabetes
- Hormonal problem such as hypoparathyroidism
- Uterine problem such as endometriosis or fibroids
- Gall bladder disease
- Seizures
- Asthma
- Migraine headache
- Blood disorder such as porphyria
- Mental or mood problem such as depression or dementia
Your doctor will advise you to stop smoking or using tobacco during Prempro treatment, as these may increase your risks of high blood pressure, heart attack, stroke or blood clots, especially if you are more than 35 years of age.
Some common side effects associated with Prempro include breast tenderness, weight changes, headache, bloating, nausea, vomiting or stomach upset. These can be easily managed with or without medical help, but you should notify your doctor if any of these become too bothersome.
Prempro may sometimes cause a serious problem due to blood clotting, such as heart attack, deep vein thrombosis, stroke or pulmonary embolism. You should immediately seek medical attention if you develop any of the following symptoms:
- Chest, left arm or jaw pain
- Unusual sweating
- Sudden or severe headache
- Confusion
- Weakness on one side of the body
- Slurred speech
- Sudden changes in vision such as complete or partial blindness
- Pain, swelling or redness in legs
- Tingling, numbness or weakness in the arms or legs
- Difficulty breathing
- Sudden dizziness or fainting
- Coughing up blood
Dosage of Prempro
Each Prempro tablet contains 0.3mg of conjugated estrogens and 1.5mg of medroxyprogesterone. Usually, your doctor will advise you to take one tablet a day, with or without meals.
Try to take the tablet at almost the same time each day, and do not increase or decrease the dosage unless your doctor advises you to do so.
