Basic Information On Proamatine
Proamatine is an andrenergic-alpha agonist and is a derivative of ethanolamine. It is an anti-hypotensive agent, also called vasopressor agent. The drug is a midodrine hydrochloride which is administered in the form of tablet and meant for oral route of administration. The drug is used for the treatment of symptomatic orthostatic-hypotention. The drug is also recommended for the treatment of hepatopulmonary syndrome and chronic fatigue syndrome. Brand or generic Proamatine, as an adjunctive therapy is used in critical care settings, for patients who are off the IV vasopressor medication. The drug gets converted into alpha-agonist desglymidodrine (an active metabolite) which acts by activating the alpha adrenergic receptors located at the venous and arterial vasculature. This action of the drug increases the vascular tone which in turn increases the blood pressure.
