Basic Information On Promacta
Promacta is a protein (man-made) which increases the platelet production in the body. It is used for the management and treatment of thrombocytopenia (a condition that is a result of low platelet count in the body). It is used especially in patients who have chronic ITP (immune thrombocytopenic purpura). The drug is administered only by those patients who are at higher risk of bleeding due to certain clinical conditions and thrombocytopenia. The drug is effective in patients who do not show sufficient response to the immunoglobulins, corticosteroids and splenectomy. Brand or generic Promacta is not a cure for thrombocytopenia. Also, it does not normalize the platelet count. It induces proliferation as well as differentiation of the megakaryocytes in the progenitor cells of the bone marrow.
