General Information on Restylane
Restylane is a dermal filler which contains NASHA (non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid). It is the first ever FDA approved filler that contains biodegradable NASHA.
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally produced chemical which is present in most animals. This chemical plays an important role in providing fullness and volume to the skin. Restylane uses hyaluronic acid in a gel form, which is injected directly into the layer under the skin. Restylane corrects folds and wrinkles in two ways. Firstly, it adds volume to the wrinkles, thereby lifting it and smoothening the folds and wrinkles. Secondly, NASHA integrates with the skin tissue and improves its binding to water, thus moisturizing the skin and adding volume to it.
Restylane is biodegradable, so your body gradually degrades the hyaluronic acid, and the effect of this filler reduces over time. Restylane will remain effective for a period of 6 months or longer, after which you would need to buy Restylane once again.
Side effects of Restylane
Restylane is a safe product, which is evident from the fact that it is the only FDA approved biodegradable NASHA dermal filler. Nevertheless, there may be side effects seen when this filler is administered. These side effects are usually not caused by hyaluronic acid, but by the method of administration.
The most common side effect of Restylane is swelling or numbness in the area of injection. These side effects are mild, and they usually fade away on their own within 2 to 3 days. However, if you find that these side effects are intolerable or do not fade off even after a few days, you must talk to your doctor as soon as you can.
In rare cases, Restylane is known to cause granulomas or lumps on the skin. If you notice any of these formations on your skin after being injected with Restylane, you must contact your doctor as soon as you can.

Restylane is injected subcutaneously into your skin. You may experience pain at the time of injection, which is why a numbing cream or injection may be given prior to the Restylane injection.
