General Information on Rocephin
Rocephin belongs to a group of drugs known as cephalosporin antibiotics. It is used to treat several bacterial infections including infections as severe as meningitis. The generic name of this drug is Ceftriaxone.
This drug is an effective antibiotic. It works by fighting the bacteria in the patient’s body.
You can only buy Rocephin as per a doctor’s prescription.
Side effects of Rocephin
You should not buy Rocephin if you have:
- Severe allergic reactions to Ceftriaxone
- Allergy to other cephalosporin antibiotics such as Cefaclor, Cefadroxil, Cefazolin, Cefpodoxime, Cefprozil, Cephalexin, etc.
- Allergy to Penicillin
Before you buy Rocephin, inform your doctor if you have any of the following:
- Liver disease
- An intestinal or stomach disorder
- Malnourishment
- Kidney disease
- Gallbladder problems

Some of the common side effects of Rocephin are:
- Headache, dizziness
- Nausea, stomach pain, vomiting

- Sweating

- Diarrhea that is watery or bloody
- Swelling or pain where the injection was administered

- White patches on the lips or inside the mouth
Pregnant women should always consult their doctor before using Rocephin. However, if you become pregnant while taking this drug, do not stop taking it without seeking the advice of your doctor.
Breastfeeding mothers should avoid Rocephin.
Dosage of Rocephin
Rocephin is injected into a vein or a muscle. A patient should receive this injection from a doctor, nurse, or any other healthcare provider.
Before injecting Rocephin, it is to be mixed with a diluent or liquid. If a patient is self-administering Rocephin at home, then he or she should properly mix and store the medication.
Rocephin is not to be mixed with a diluent that contains calcium, including a total parenteral nutrition solution.

Rocephin should be used for the period prescribed by the doctor. This administration is usually continued for at least 48 hours after a patient’s symptoms disappear.
In case of a missed dose, a patient should take Rocephin as soon as he or she remembers the same. You can skip the dose you missed if its already time for your next dose. Two doses should not be taken at the same time to make up for the missed dose.
An overdose of Rocephin requires immediate medical intervention. One of the obvious symptoms is diarrhea, which is a sign of a new infection. If the patient has watery or bloody stools, he or she has to stop using Rocephin and seek emergency medical help.
A patient must not buy Rocephin to treat a viral infection like common cold or flu.
Interactions
Rocephin has been reported to have interactions with a total of 52 drugs. Among these 9 are major, 33 are moderate, and 10 are minor drug interactions. Some of the drugs that react with Rocephin include:

Rocephin has three disease interactions- colitis, gall bladder disease, and renal or liver disease.
Inform your doctor if you use other over-the-counter, prescription, or vitamin and herbal products since they may adversely react with Rocephin.
