General Information on Thiola
The generic name of Thiola, a renal-urologic agent, is tiopronin. Tiopronin is a chelating agent. Thiola is a prescription drug used to control kidney stone formation in the kidneys by removing extra cystine from the body. It can be used to treat arthritis and Wilson’s disease (overload of copper in the body). Thiola is usually taken when other methods are not successful, such as alkali therapy, special dietary measures, etc., or when a patient cannot take the usual medication, d-penicillamine, for cystinuria. Tiopronin is available only with a doctor’s prescription, so you can buy Thiola online after consulting a doctor.
Side effects of Thiola
Thiola is not a drug that can be prescribed for everyone. It has wide variety of side effects. The most common side effects are loss in appetite, change in taste, vomiting, stomach pain, dryness of the skin, etc. A patient has to see a doctor right away if he or she experiences severe allergic reactions such as rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, etc.
Thiola can cause hepatic side effects such as abnormal liver function tests, dermatological complications such as warts, urticaria, ecchymosis, ulcers, etc., metabolic side effects of vitamin B6 deficiency, hematologic complications such as increased bleeding, anemia, thrombocytopenia, etc., renal side effects of blood in the urine, etc., and neurological complications such as myasthenic syndrome.
Precautions
You should know the potential side effects and complications before you buy Thiola. To avoid potential complications, go for regular tests to determine peripheral blood count, direct platelet count, hemoglobin, routine urinalysis, 24-hour urinary protein, liver function tests, etc. It is not wise to administer Thiola to patients below the age group of 9 because its effectiveness in young children has not been established. Women who are pregnant are not advised to take Thiola, and mothers who are breastfeeding are not supposed to take the medication as it may cause adverse reactions. If you are a nursing mother, consult your doctor before administering this drug. Patients with blood disorders such as anemia, low white blood cell count, and low platelet count should not buy Thiola without informing their doctor about their condition.
