General Information on Ticlid
The generic name of Ticlid is ticlopidine and it belongs to the class of antiplatelet drugs. It is used to prevent the forming of blood clots in patients. Patients who have a history of previous strokes or who are at risk of hypertensive strokes can buy Ticlid under the guidance of doctor to prevent further strokes. It is also noted to be effective in dilating the blood vessels to the heart after certain surgeries when given along with aspirin. Ticlopidine works by preventing blood clots, which helps in reducing the risk of heart attacks or stroke.
Side effects of Ticlid
Ticlid may cause the following mild side effects:
- diarrhea
- nausea
- rash
- stomach upset
- vomiting
Ticlopidine is known to drastically lower white blood platelet count. Ticlopidine may also result in thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura, commonly known as TTP. Other serious side effects of Ticlid include the following:
- Nausea, low fever, dark urine, loss of appetite, clay-like stools
- Pale skin, weakness, easy bleeding or bruising, reduced or no urination
- Confusion, sudden headache, vision, speech and balance problems
Precautions
Before you buy Ticlid, your physician should be aware if you are allergic to ticlopidine or any other drugs or foods.
Ticlid should not be used if a patient is suffeingr from an ulcer or recently had an injury, surgery or bleeding problem, or an allergy to one or any of its ingredients. If you suffer from liver or kidney problems, then you may need a specialized dosage. If the problem is severe, then your doctor may not recommend Ticlid at all.
Symptoms may appear within the first few days after starting this medication. Immediate attention needs to be sought if the patient notices any of these rare but serious side effects: dysarthria, hemiparesis, and seizure. Ticlopidine should always be taken with food or just after a meal to avoid stomach upset.
Ticlid Dosage
Ticlid tablets needs to be swallowed with a drink of water. It is best if you take your dosage with milk or food, so that you can lower the risk of stomach upset. If you are taking any antacids, you should keep an interval of at least 2 hours between your dosage of Ticlid and the antacid. Ticlid 250 mg one tablet two times daily with food is the usual dose of along with aspirin for a period of one month following a cardiac procedure like stent placement. If you miss a dose of Ticlid, administer it as soon as you can recall it. However, if you have reached the time of your next dose, do not take double dose of Ticlid to compensate for missed dose. Be very careful that overdose of Ticlid can result in very serious complications.
Interactions
Risk of hemorrhage is increased when Ticlid is consumed with anticoagulants or aspirin. If patients consume antacids they should take them 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking ticlopidine.
