General Information on Tresaderm
Tresaderm is a veterinary medication indicated for cats and dogs. It consists of two generic drugs named dexamethasone neomycin sulfate and thiabendazole. While dexamethasone neomycin sulfate is an anti-inflammatory drug, thiabendazole is classified as a parasiticide and fungicide.
You can buy Tresaderm online for the treatment of certain chronic or acute bacterial or fungal infections, as well as certain inflammatory skin disorders in your pet, but only if it has been prescribed by your vet. Tresaderm has also been found to be useful in the treatment of otitis externa, which is an ear inflammation.
Tresaderm is a prescription drug, so you cannot buy it over the counter. The veterinarian needs to inspect and evaluate your pet’s condition and prescribe Tresaderm accordingly. Another important point to note about Tresaderm is that it must be refrigerated at all times.
Side effects of Tresaderm
The side effects that may occur due to Tresaderm is actually caused by individual ingredients rather than the drug itself. Tresaderm contains corticosteroids that cause the following side effects- increased urination or thirst, diarrhea, vomiting, and Cushing’s syndrome, which occurs when steroids are taken over a long period of time.
You must stop giving Tresaderm to your pet if it begins to show signs of sensitivity to neomycin. These signs include swelling, irritation and redness. If any other side effects are seen in your cat or dog, you may still continue giving it Tresaderm after consulting your veterinarian.
Dosage of Tresaderm
You can buy Tresaderm in the form of a dermatologic solution that is to be applied on the skin or ears of the dog. 15ml of the solution is stored in a dropper bottle. Each ml of Tresaderm solution contains the following active drugs and their respective strengths- thiabendazole 40mg, dexamethasone 1mg, and neomycin 3.2mg.
Before you administer Tresaderm, wash and clean the affected area of your pet thoroughly. The drops must be applied only onto the skin or ears. Do not allow Tresaderm to come in contact with your pet’s eyes. Moreover, you must also limit Tresaderm treatment to one week only.
The number of drops of Tresaderm to be applied will be determined by the veterinarian. You would also be instructed on the right way of applying this solution on your pet. If you have any doubts over the method of application, you may ask your veterinarian for clarification.
The dosage of Tresaderm is dependent on how severe the pet’s condition is. For skin disorders that affect the pet in any other area except the ear, you must moisten the affected area with Tresaderm. This is usually done with 2 or 4 drops for every square inch. For treating ear problems, around 5 to 15 drops of Tresaderm are applied into the ear for every dose. Drops are usually administered twice a day, irrespective of where the problem has occurred.
Interactions
Tresaderm may interact with other veterinary medications or products. Before you buy Tresaderm, you must let your vet know about any other corticosteroid, antifungal or antibiotic medications that your pet is being given. This includes medicines applied topically and those given orally.
