Basic Information On Tykerb
Tykerb belongs to family of medications known as “dual tyrosine kinase inhibitors. It inhibits the domains of both Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR [ErbB1]) and of Human Epidermal Receptor Type 2 (HER-2 [ErbB2]) receptors. It is an anti cancer medication. It is used to treat breast cancer. It is administered orally and used in adjunct therapy with capecitabine (Xeloda) to treat advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body. It also treats tumors which over express HER2 in patients who have received prior therapy including an anthracycline, a taxane, and Trastuzumab. The Tykerb drug reduces the number of tumor causing stem cells. This medicine is used when other anti- cancer medications have not been successful in treating the symptoms.
