General Information On Valisone

Valisone is a lotion used to treat problems related to the skin. The active ingredient present in Valisone is a corticosteroid which decreases the level of chemicals that are responsible for the swelling of the skin, ulcer formations, redness and inflammations that are caused due to eczema, allergic reactions, and psoriasis. The generic name of Valisone is Betamethasone topical. Patients can also buy Valisone online or from a drugstore in the form of a dental paste to treat mouth ulcers.

Side effects of Valisone

Valisone is available on a doctor’s prescription. However, patients with the following conditions should be aware of the potential harm the drug can cause and must never use Valisone without consulting a doctor:

  • Chickenpox
  • Allergy to any ingredient in the composition
  • Herpes simplex
  • Fungal or yeast infections or skin lesions caused by a virus.
  • Tuberculosis of the skin
  • Vaccinia

All drugs that are absorbed into the bloodstream, either directly or indirectly, cause side effects to some degree. Some patients adjust well to the minor effects of Valisone. These are as follows:

  • Blisters and rashes
  • Peeling skin
  • Irritated skin, itching, and redness
  • Stretch marks
  • Thinning of the skin
  • Burning or stinging sensations

There may be other uncommon side effects of Valisone beside the ones mentioned above. A few of the potentially serious side effects of Valisone are listed below:

  • Vision problems like blurry vision, seeing halos around lights or bright objects, etc.
  • Tiredness
  • Sleeping trouble
  • Weight gain, swelling of the face
  • Changes in heart rate
  • Mood swings
  • Blisters that contain blood or pus
  • Skin infections
  • Spider veins

If Valisone is used improperly or in the long term, the following side effects may surface:

  • Hair loss
  • Irregular menstrual cycles in women
  • Appetite loss
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Reduced libido in men
  • Weakness in the limbs and muscle cramps
  • High blood pressure
  • Coloured lines on the body, white spots
  • Irritability

Patients who buy Valisone should discuss all the possible side effects of the medicine with the doctor to avoid severe problems. Valisone may harm the fetus and as such, pregnant mothers or women planning to get pregnant should consult their physicians before using Valisone. Nursing women should only use Valisone if the doctor thinks it’s absolutely necessary. The drug’s safety in children has not been established and so, it may cause harmful effects like growth impairment if used in large quantities or over a prolonged time period.

Dosage of Valisone

Valisone should be applied exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Usually, a small quantity of the lotion is applied over the affected area and spread in the form of a thin layer three times a day. Hands should be washed and well dried before using Valisone. The area where the lotion has been applied should be left uncovered, except in cases where the doctor recommends using an occlusive covering. An excess of Valisone should never be applied to make up for a missed dose. Using Valisone without proper medical guidance can prove hazardous. Applying the lotion near the mouth or eyes, over sunburnt or irritated skin, and on skin folds should be avoided. Valisone should be stored at room temperature and kept away from heat and moisture.

Interactions

There are some minor interactions between Betamethasone topical and other drugs like metformin, glipizide, insulin, repaglinide, acarbose and other topical corticosteroids. Inform your doctor if you are using any of the above medications or other drugs before you buy Valisone.
