Basic Information On Vepesid
Vepesid is an anti-tumor or anti-neoplastic drug. It is a semi-synthetic drug and a podophyllotoxin derivative, that is used for treating neoplastic diseases. The drug is administered orally in form of soft gelatin capsules. It is also used in chemotherapy in certain cancers and malignancies like small cell lung cancer, lymphoma, testicular cancer, Ewing’s sarcoma, glioblastoma multiforme, and non lymphocytic leukemia. The drug acts by inhibiting the DNA synthesis during cell division (premitotic stage). This is achieved by inhibiting the DNA topoisomerase-II. These errors in the DNA synthesis lead to apoptosis of the tumor cells. The action of brand or generic Vepesid is phase- specific and depends on the cell cycle.
