Basic Information On Vesanoid
Vesanoid is involved in the induction of maturation of the acute promyelocytic leukemia cells (APL). It is responsible for the expression of the genes during the development of the embryo. It is also responsible in the normal growth of cells. It is a retinoic acid which is derived from vitamin A (maternal). However, if it is in excess then it can be cancerous (teratogenic). It is available as soft gelatin capsules which is used in the treatment of APL. It is also available in form of gel or cream which is used in the treatment of keratosis pilaris and acne vulgaris. Promyelocytic leukemia gene-retionic acid receptor (PML-RAR) blocks the differentiation of myeloid cells into mature cells, thus causing leukemia. Brand or generic Vesanoid acts by lifting this block and allowing the immature cells (promyelocytes) to differentiate and mature into normal cells.
