General Information on Vetoryl
Vetoryl is indicated for the treatment of Cushing’s disease or hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. Usually, this disorder is common in dogs that are older than 6 years of age. The generic name of this drug is Trilostane.
Hyperadrenocorticism is marked by the abnormal production of a hormone called glucocorticoid. This happens either due to adrenocortical tumor or improper functioning of the pituitary glands. Common symptoms associated with this condition are: increased thirst, frequent urination, increased appetite, hair loss, thin skin, brittle hair, depression, lethargy, and abdominal extension.
The active ingredient in this drug, Trilostane, inhibits the activity of the enzyme that causes the excessive production of cortisol. As cortisol level decreases, the symptoms of hyperadrenocorticism begin to heal. However, Vetoryl does not cure hyperadrenocorticism. In fact, as of now, there is no cure for this condition. This basically means that your pet will need to be given Vetoryl for the rest of its life.
Vetoryl is meant for oral administration only. It is available in the form of oral capsules, which come in the following strengths: Vetoryl 10 mg, 30 mg, and 60 mg. As this drug is a prescription drug, you can buy Vetoryl only if you have a vet’s prescription for it.
Side effects of Vetoryl

The dosage of Vetoryl depends on the pet’s weight. The recommended dosage range is 1 mg/lb to 3 mg/lb. Vetoryl should be administered once a day. This drug should be administered with food.
Vetoryl is not meant for human use. You should wash your hands before and after administering this drug. Store Vetoryl oral capsules at room temperature between 20°-30°C.
Interactions
