General Information on Vibramycin

Vibramycin is used for treating bacterial infections of the urinary tract and other various bacterial infections like gonorrhea, acne, periodontitis, chalmydia, and others. The generic name of this drug is Doxycycline. It is available for oral and intravenous administration.

Vibramycin comes under a category of drugs referred as tetracycline antibiotics. You should consult your doctor before you buy Vibramycin as it can cause serious side effects in some cases.

In addition to the aforementioned conditions, Vibramycin is used for treating bumps and lesions that occur due to rosacea. However, this antibiotic will not heal facial redness that occurs due to rosacea.

Side effects of Vibramycin

Patients who have a known allergy to tetracycline antibiotics or doxycycline should not buy Vibramycin. You must consult your doctor if you are taking this drug for the first time and experience an allergic reaction. Allergic reaction are often accompanied by following symptoms: hives, swelling of the tongue, lips, or throat, difficulty breathing, wheezing, trouble swallowing, facial flushness, or skin rashes.

Before your doctor prescribes you Vibramycin, he/she should be aware of your medical history, especially of any liver, kidney, or breathing disorder.

Vibramycin may cause following mild side effects:

  • Upset stomach
  • Mild diarrhea or nausea
  • Vaginal discharge or itching

In some cases, patients may experience following serious side effects:

  • Blurred vision
  • Severe headache
  • Dizziness
  • Yellow eyes or skin, loss of appetite, dark urine
  • Weakness or confusion
  • Bloody or watery diarrhea
  • Less than normal or no urination

Vibramycin is contraindicated in pregnancy. This drug can cause birth defects. So, do not buy Vibramycin if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

This drug is known to reduce the efficacy of hormonal birth control methods (birth pills). While you are using this antibiotic, your doctor will ask you to use a non-hormonal form of birth control.

Vibramycin is contraindicated in breastfeeding women. This drug adversely affects the tooth and bone development in nursing children. Do not breastfeed while you are taking this drug.

Do not administer Vibramycin in children aged less than 8 years as it can cause permanent grey or yellow teeth.

Dosage of Vibramycin

The recommended oral dosage of Vibramycin in adult patients is 200mg on the 1st day followed by a daily maintenance dosage of 100mg/day. Patients who have severe infections may be administered a higher maintenance dosage.

The recommended oral dosage in children aged more than 8 years and body weight of 100 lbs or less is Vibramycin 2mg/lb on the 1st day followed by a daily maintenance dosage of 1mg/lb. The dosage schedule for children with body weight in excess of 100 lbs is same as that of adults.

Interactions

You may experience unwanted drug interactions if you take certain drugs in combination with Vibramycin. It is in your best interest to let your physician know all drugs that you are currently using. This includes all herbal medicines and non-prescription drugs such as vitamin supplements.
