Yasmin is used to prevent pregnancy. It stops the sperm from reaching the uterus and the fertilized egg. It inhibits ovulation and thickens the cervical mucus. It alters the uterus lining, called endometrium, in a female which makes it difficult for the fertilized egg to implant there. The Yasmin drug is also used to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) which may cause breast tenderness, lack of sleep and appetite, depression, irritability, weight gain or headache. After taking it for 21 consecutive days, it should be followed by a white inert tablet on days 22 through 28. The contraceptive medication should be continued in case of spotting or breakthrough bleeding. However, if the bleeding is persistent or prolonged, you should consult your doctor.
