Zerit belongs to a class of medicine known as synthetic thymidine nucleoside analogue. This medicine is used to treat HIV virus. HIV virus attacks the immune system and slowly destroys the body's ability to fight off infection. HIV virus causes the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). This medicine does not cure AIDS or HIV. This medicine can cause severe or life-threatening effects on your pancreas or liver. The liquid form of brand or generic Zerit contains 50 milligrams of sucrose (sugar) per millilitre, which means that 250 milligrams of sugar is present in each teaspoon (5 ml) of Zerit liquid. Zerit Dosage
Zerit capsules are supplied in strengths of 15, 20, 30 and 40 mg of Stavudine. These capsules are meant for oral administration. The drug may be taken with or without food. There should be a 12 hour gap between doses of this medicine. For patients weighing less than 60 kg, the recommended dosage is 30 mg twice daily. For patients weighing over 60 kg., the dosage should be 40 mg twice a day. The medicine should be stored in tightly closed containers at 25°C. However, the temperature may be allowed to vary between 15 degree and 30 degree Celsius.
