Zocor is indicated in treatment of high levels of cholesterol, triglycerides and lipoproteins in the blood. It is also used to lower the risk of death from coronary heart disease in people with diabetes, angina or who have had heart attack.
Simvastatin, the main active in the medication belongs to a group of medicines known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of enzyme in the liver which plays an important role in production of LDL cholesterol which leads to lowering the blood cholesterol levels.
