About Spiriva

Keep out of reach of children and pets. Store at room temperature. Do not take more than was prescribed to you. Do not take Spiriva unless it was prescribed by your doctor. Do not give someone medication that wasn’t prescribed to them. Take Spiriva at the same time every day.

The contents of the capsule should only be inhaled through your mouth using the Handihaler device. Do not spray Spiriva Respimat into your eyes, as this may cause blurring of vision and pupil dilation. Tell your doctor about all your medical conditions including kidney problems, glaucoma, enlarged prostate, problems passing urine, or blockage in your bladder. Tell your doctor all the medicines you take, including eye drops. Ask your doctor if you are taking any anticholinergic medicines because taking them together with Spiriva can increase side effects. Do not use Spiriva Respimat and Spiriva Handihaler together.

How to Use Spiriva Respimat

Take two puffs twice daily unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. Before initial use, your Spiriva Respimat inhaler should be primed. Read the product literature or ask your doctor for a demonstration.

  1. Turn the base
  2. Remove cap and place lips around the mouthpiece
  3. Press all the way down as you inhale deeply.

How to Use Spiriva Handihaler

Take at the same time every day, unless otherwise indicated by your doctor. Ask your doctor for a demonstration if you aren’t sure how to use your Spiriva Handihaler. Do not swallow your Handihaler capsules.

  1. Press green button to open the lid. Pull the cap away from base to expose the mouthpiece. Open the mouthpiece.
  2. Remove a Spiriva capsule from the blister pack and insert it into the Handihaler.
  3. Pierce the Spiriva capsule with the green button.
  4. Release a deep breath to empty out your lungs. Place lips firmly around the mouthpiece and breathe in deeply, then hold your breath for a few seconds as you remove the Handihaler. If you are inhaling correctly, you should hear the capsule rattle.
  5. Repeat one more time.
