General Information on Dulera
Dulera is indicated for controlling the symptoms of asthma in adults and children over 12 years. The generic name of this drug is Formoterol and Mometasone, derived from the names of the two active ingredients present in this drug.
A long-acting beta₂-agonist, formoterol improves breathing by relaxing the muscles in the airways. The other active ingredient in the preparation, Mometasone, is classified as a steroid. It works by preventing the release of chemicals that cause inflammation.
Dulera is not meant to treat a bronchospasm or asthma attack. It is recommended only as a maintenance treatment for asthma. In addition to the two active ingredients, Dulera also contains the following excipients: anhydrous alcohol, hydrofluoroalkane, and oleic acid.
Side effects of Dulera
You should not buy Dulera if you have a known allergy to mometasone, formoterol, or any other ingredient present in the formulation. An allergic reaction to Dulera may lead to facial flushing, hives, and difficulty breathing or swallowing. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects after using Dulera.
The most common and less serious side effects of this drug include: mild headache, sinusitis (inflammation of the nose), or nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nose).
Rare and serious side effects of Dulera include: hypokalemia (muscle cramps, weakness, or aches, nausea, constipation, abdominal bloating, cramping, fainting, or mental/mood changes), hyperglycemia (headaches, increased thirst, weight loss, fatigue, frequent urination, or blurred vision), slow growth rate in children, or decreased bone mineral density. Consult your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects.
If you have certain medical conditions, your doctor may adjust your dosage or ask you to undergo special tests before and/or during treatment to evaluate the safety of the treatment. It is necessary that you inform your doctor in advance about your medical history, especially if you have/have had: liver disease, heart disease, tuberculosis, glaucoma, thyroid disorder, diabetes, seizure disorder, or osteoporosis.
Dulera is a pregnancy category C drug, which means that its safety in pregnant women is not known. If you are pregnant, use Dulera only after consulting your doctor. Dulera may harm a nursing child, so it is imperative that you consult your doctor before using this drug if you are breastfeeding an infant.
The safety of Dulera in children below 12 years of age has not been studied. You should consult a doctor before administering this drug to a child younger than 12 years.
