Basic Information On Dyrenium
Dyrenium is prescribed for the treatment of edema, in particular, the edema caused due to congestive heart failure, nephritic syndrome and cirrhosis of the liver. It is a diuretic, which is meant to prevent body from absorbing salt in excess. It works by increasing the amount of urine production, thereby allowing excess loss of sodium and water, and also preventing the kidney to lose too much of potassium. The main ingredient of the drug is Triamterene. Since this drug may increase the potassium levels in your body, it is advisable to avoid food containing potassium like bananas, orange juice, etc. In some cases, it may cause hypersensitivity, making you extremely sensitive to bright light or heat. Some side effects of Dyrenium are kidney stones, acute renal failure, jaundice, or diarrhea. You may also experience some dizziness or dry mouth.

What is a "Generic" medication/drug?
Generic drugs are medications that have the comparable medicinal ingredients as the original brand name drug, but which are generally cheaper in price. Nearly 1 in 3 drugs dispensed are "generic". They undergo comparative testing to ensure that they are the same as their "brand" counterparts in:

This second option is called a "comparative bioavailability" study. During this type of study, volunteers are given the original drug, and then separately later the generic drug. The rates at which the drug is delivered to the patient (into their blood stream or otherwise absorbed) are measured to ensure they are the same. Because the same active ingredient is used the major concern is just that it delivers the common chemical(s) at the same rate so that they have the same effect.
