Full information about Librax

General Information on Librax

Librax is indicated for the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), intestinal infections, and stomach ulcers. The generic name of this drug is Chlordiazepoxide and Clidinium. Clidinium blocks the production of stomach acid and Chlordiazepoxide inhibits the action of certain chemicals that cause anxiety.

Librax is meant for oral administration only. You can buy Librax in the form of oral tablets. The drug is available as Librax 5mg-2.5mg. Each Librax oral tablet contains 5mg of chlordiazepoxide and 2.5mg of clidinium. In addition to these two active ingredients, each oral tablet also contains the following inert ingredients: lactose, corn starch, and talc.

Side effects of Librax

Patients who have a bladder obstruction, an enlarged prostate, narrow-angle glaucoma, or problems with urination should not buy Librax. Do not use this drug if you have a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient present in its formulation or if you are hypersensitive to any other benzodiazepine like diazepam, clorazepate, alprazolam, oxazepam, or lorazepam.

Librax may cause the following side effects: irregular menstrual periods, dry mouth, drowsiness, headache, tiredness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, vomitting, nausea, or skin rash.

Other side effects of Librax may include: confusion, less urination, hallucinations, hyperactivity, restless muscle movements, depressed mode, agitation, or signs of liver damage (loss of appetite, nausea, yellowing of the eyes or skin). You should consult your doctor if you experience any of these side effects.

If you suffer from certain conditions, your doctor may recommend you undergo certain tests to ensure that Librax is safe for you. That is why it is necessary that before you start treatment you discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have or have had a liver disease, ulcerative colitis, kidney disease, myasthenia gravis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchitis, emphysema, open-angle glaucoma, or depression.

Librax should be used in pregnancy only when the expected benefit to the mother outweighs the possible risk to the unborn child. Consult your doctor before using this drug if you are pregnant.

Contents of Librax, specifically Chlordiazepoxide, may cause harm to a nursing child. You should avoid using Librax if you are breastfeeding.

Librax may cause drowsiness or sleepiness in some patients. You should not drive or operate machinery until the sedative effects of Librax have faded completely. The sedative effects of this drug may be more pronounced in geriatric patients. That is why elderly patients should exercise caution when taking Librax.

Dosage of Librax

The recommended dosage range from one or two Librax capsules three or four times per day. Your doctor is likely to initiate treatment with a lower dose and, may later, increase the dosage if necessary.

You should take your medication exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not decrease or increase your dosage without consulting your doctor as it may make the treatment ineffective or cause serious side effects.

Interactions

As certain drugs can interact with Librax, you should inform your doctor, in advance, about all other drugs that you are taking. This includes all prescription, non-prescription, and herbal medicines.

The following drugs are likely to interact with Librax: blood thinners, narcotic medicines, antidepressants, anti-psychotic medications, barbiturates, MAO inhibitors, and antidepressants.
