Stablon is an antidepressant agent. It increases uptake of serotonin in the patient’s brain and reduces stress-induced atrophy of neuronal dendrites. This drug is used in major depression, depressed bipolar disorder, adjustment disorder or dysthymia. The generic name of this drug is Tianeptine. This medication is available as Stablon 12.5mg.

Side effects of Stablon

Dosage of Stablon

For elderly patients, those over 70 years and those patients suffering from renal insufficiency the dose should be restricted to two Stablon 12.5mg tablets a day.
In case a patient misses a dose of Stablon 12.5mg medicine, and if remembers within an hour or so, he or she should take the missed dose immediately. You can continue with your regular schedule if it is already time for your next dose of this medicine. A patient should not take double doses. In case of overdose, a patient should seek an urgent medical attention. Overdose symptoms include drowsiness, severe abdominal pain, nightmares, and suicidal thoughts.
Stablon should not be taken with non selective MAOIs and mianserine. However, a wash-out period of 15 days is needed between treatment with MAOIs and treatment with Stablon. A wash-out period of 24 hours is needed when replacing Stablon with an MAOI. Due to its sucrose content, Stablon is contradicted for patients with fructose intolerance, glucose and galactose malabsorption syndrome or sucrase-isomaltase deficiency which is a rare inherited disease.
In order to prevent accidental drug interactions between Stablon and other drugs a patient should inform doctor or chemist regularly if he or she should be taking any other pharmaceutical drug with this medication. The adverse drug reaction symptoms include lump in the throat, myalgia, lipothymia, hot flushes, respiratory discomfort, dry mouth, flatulence, insomnia, tachycardia and vertigo.

What is a "Generic" medication/drug?
Generic drugs are medications that have the comparable medicinal ingredients as the original brand name drug, but which are generally cheaper in price. Nearly 1 in 3 drugs dispensed are "generic". They undergo comparative testing to ensure that they are the same as their "brand" counterparts in:

This second option is called a "comparative bioavailability" study. During this type of study, volunteers are given the original drug, and then separately later the generic drug. The rates at which the drug is delivered to the patient (into their blood stream or otherwise absorbed) are measured to ensure they are the same. Because the same active ingredient is used the major concern is just that it delivers the common chemical(s) at the same rate so that they have the same effect.
